The National Egyptian Development Association (NEDA) is an Egyptian national foundation (Non-Profit Organization) registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity under No. 6552 and governed by law 84/2002.
NEDA was established in 2006 by a group of intellectuals and business men/ women with the purpose of qualifying youth to fit the requirements of the job market as part of enhancing the role of civil society to contribute to the development of the Egyptian society and address its priority socio-economic issues – particularly unemployment with all its negative impacts on society. Meanwhile, investing in young people with all their capabilities and potentials would lead to improving the quality of life for individuals and society.
The experience of NEDA’s members and their business partners has shown that Egypt is suffering from a severe labor problem/gap reflected in the absence of the adequate experience and qualifications needed to fill the available job opportunities and support national economic entities in facing the challenges of globalization, open markets, exporting and the exposure of domestic market to foreign imports. The other challenge is in the young people themselves: are they really keen to start work and actively looking for jobs? And if they want to work, do they have the right skills and attitude needed by the labor market?
As an active civil society organization, NEDA’s has carefully drafted its vision: “Competent Youth for a Better Future in Egypt”, selecting the difficult path of searching for disadvantaged youth, and recently children as well, who have limited opportunities, to prepare them, ethically, culturally and skill-wise to realize that vision, to start a career and play a positive role in the development of their communities. It prepares them with the necessary tools, work ethics, quality measures, skills, besides new technologies and crafts.
To realize its mission, NEDA partners with the government, international organizations, other NGOs and the Private Sector as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility towards the Egyptian community.
The organization achieves its goals based on two main pillars:
First: Professional Development, which includes
- Organizing awareness courses for youth to emphasize core professional values
- Facilitating technical training for youth at professional training centers
- Providing youth with practical training opportunities (on-the-job)
- Helping youth with job hunting or establishing their own small businesses
Second: Sustainability Model, which includes
- Building the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) interested in youth development.
- Providing partner CSOs with the complete model professional youth development.
We, the National Egyptian Development Association “NEDA” believe that Egyptian Youth have the capacity and potential that qualifies them for a better life.
NEDA will work with youth and the community to qualify disadvantaged youth for the labor market through awareness and training. Hence, they will have the knowledge, skills and attitude that match the needs of the labor market;
NEDA will work in partnership with civil society organizations through sharing a sustainable model for qualifying youth for the labor market;
NEDA will work with the private sector to promote and support a culture of corporate social responsibility in order to provide better opportunities for youth;
Thus, Egyptian youth will have a fair chance to compete in the labor market and lead a decent life towards greater prosperity for Egypt.
